A pirouette through the turbulence of life.
Director Jess Milne is a cinematographer/director from Bulli NSW.
She is a versatile and resourceful filmmaker. Having come through the ranks of post production, design and motion graphics before moving into production Jess has the advantage of knowing what works on screen.
She has held key creative positions with Cutting Edge, Defence, Mazda Australia and The Australian Communications and Media Authority and lectured in design/animation at The Queensland College of Art as well as numerous short courses at The Australian Film Television and Radio School in Sydney. This experience boils down to understanding what it’s like from the producer, marketer and agency perspectives.
Jess holds degrees in theatre/fine art, digital design (hons) and is an AFTRS alumni having completed her Masters in Screen Arts and Business at the Australian Film Television and Radio School in 2014.
“I was very honoured that Elana Kats-Chernin composed this beautiful music for Bella. Each scene was written according to the story structure I wanted to explore. I wanted to make a film that was free of dialogue and created a world through dance and movement.
I also love the beautiful landscapes on offer in the Illawarra, where I live and this film is me showing off my pride in this fabulous country, Dharawal country, from its rugged steelworks to the ocean and escarpment.
Bella is moving on from a toxic relationship as she experiences the ebb and flow of the journey back to herself. It’s one step forward and two back until something shifts deep within.
She casts off her old skin, the complex mix of love lost, longing and desire as she works through her pain.”
